Candle Care:

How to Get the Most Out of Your Candle Purchase

Candles are a great way to add a touch of luxury and ambiance to your home. But to get the most out of your candle purchase, it’s important to know how to care for them properly. Here are a few tips:

Trim the wick before each use

A long wick can cause the candle to burn too hot and produce soot. To avoid this, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each use. You can use a wick trimmer or simply a pair of scissors.

Burn the candle for at least 3 hours the first time

This will help to create a full melt pool, which will prevent tunneling (a wax buildup around the edge of the candle). If you don’t burn the candle for long enough the first time, it will be more likely to tunnel in the future.

Don’t burn the candle for more than 4 hours at a time

Burning the candle for too long can cause the wick to overheat and produce smoke. It’s also important to let the candle cool completely before relighting it.

Keep the candle away from drafts and direct sunlight

Drafts and direct sunlight can cause the candle to burn unevenly. It’s best to place the candle in a still spot where it won’t be disturbed.

Extinguish the candle properly

To avoid wax splatters and smoke, use a wick snuffer or dip the wick in the melted wax to extinguish it. Don’t blow out the candle, as this can cause the wick to smolder and produce smoke.

Store the candle in a cool, dark place

When you’re not using the candle, store it in a cool, dark place. This will help to preserve the fragrance and prevent the wax from discoloring.

Following these simple tips will help you to get the most out of your candle purchase and enjoy your candles for years to come.

Bonus tip: If you notice your candle tunneling, don’t worry! There’s a simple fix. Simply wrap the candle in aluminum foil, cutting a hole in the top to light the candle. This will reflect the heat back into the wax and help to melt the tunnel. Once the tunnel is melted, you can remove the aluminum foil and enjoy your candle as usual.

We hope these tips help you to get the most out of your Yebba & Co candles!
